Children & Youth

Childcare
From 8:45 a.m. to noon, children from newborn to toddlers are cared for by staff and volunteers in Room 105. Care for children of all ages is offered during both the 9 a.m. First Service and the 10:30 a.m. Sanctuary Service. Parents who wish to remain with their children are also welcome to bring them to the Heritage Room where they can listen to the 10:30 worship service while caring for their young children.

Church School
At 10:30, classes are offered for children, three years of age through 6th grade. Three- and four-year-olds through first grade participate in the Montessori-based Godly Play program. Children in 2nd through 6th grades participate in a rotational curriculum unique to Plymouth; it explores scripture from the perspectives of global view, the arts, values and justice. Once each month, children participate in Sanctuary Sunday, beginning the morning in worship before going to Church School classes. All classes gather at 11:30 in the Fireside Room for music and community.

Plymouth’s Church School and Choir School programs are accessible to all children. Parents of children who have an IEP or 504 Plan should contact Jo Holcomb for information about the program.

Junior High
For 7th and 8th grade students, class discussions focus on world events, trends, exploring spirituality and religion, teen issues and identity. The program also includes service activities, retreats, lock-ins, fundraising and canoeing. Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in Room 208. Contact Paula Northwood.

PF LogoPF (Pilgrim Fellowship)
For 9th through 12th grade students, class features fellowship and student-initiated discussions on a variety of topics. The program also includes service activities, retreats, fundraising, outings, skiing and a mission trip. Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in the PF Room. Contact Paula Northwood.

Confirmation
For 9th grade and older students preparing to be confirmed in their faith. Class features exploration of the main themes of the Christian faith. Activities include service projects, retreats and special events. Sundays, 9 to 10 a.m. in the Room 208, Sept.-May. Paula Northwood. 2009-10 Confirmation Schedule [PDF]

Winter Revival/Family Arts Month
During Sundays in January, the Winter Revival/Family Arts Month program replaces the usual Sunday morning religious education programming for children and their families at Plymouth. The primary focus is on some aspect of the arts and the impact of the arts on religious and spiritual life as well as social responsibility. The last Sunday of the month centers around a worship celebration and display celebrating the work of the children.
