Services, Hours & Access

First Service
This 9 a.m. service in the chapel, held September-May, fosters a spirit of informality while upholding Plymouth’s excellence in worship and music. Plymouth ministers, guest clergy and lay theologians offer brief sermons that challenge the heart and mind. Each service features volunteer musicians of all ages drawn from the diverse pool of talent in the congregation. Children are fully included and music is drawn from a large spectrum of our sacred heritage. Other arts, such as dance performance, are occasionally part of this service, as well as practices or symbols from other cultures and traditions, recognizing the ethnic and cultural diversity of our neighborhood and Plymouth’s openness to truth found in non-Christian traditions. Children are especially welcome.

Sanctuary Service
Plymouth’s 10:30 worship service (10 a.m. June-Aug.) is known for extraordinary music, challenging preaching, thoughtful prayers and a spirit that reaches deep and draws up a richness of gifts within the congregation. Though the order of service is steeped in a tradition that particularly honors the preached word, there are other elements – sacraments, prayers, readings and, from our many choirs, special music – that fill our worship hour. Both head and heart are engaged, and there’s always the inspiration of seeing the face of God in our gathered congregation.

Coffee for refreshment and fellowship is available throughout Sunday morning in the Fine Arts Gallery. Coffee Hour following both worship services is held in Guild Hall (in the Fine Arts Gallery during the summer); tea is also served. Coffee Hour can be sponsored in honor of a person or special event.

Large print bulletins, hearing aids and wheelchairs are available on Sunday mornings. Ask an usher.

Childcare

Sundays from 8:45 a.m. to noon, children from newborn to toddlers are cared for by staff and volunteers in Room 105. Care for children of all ages is offered during both the 9 a.m. First Service and the 10:30 a.m. Sanctuary Service. Parents who wish to remain with their children are also welcome to bring them to the Heritage Room where they can listen to the 10:30 worship service while caring for their young children.

Vespers
This Sunday evening service is designed to allow people a quiet, reflective time with beautiful music, poetry and scripture. We incorporate the lighting of candles, individual prayer and optional anointing with oil on the hands or forehead. This service is typically held four times a year at 6:45 on a Sunday evening.

Office Hours
The church office is open and staffed Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. (to 4:30 p.m. during the summer). There's also a receptionist on Sunday mornings. The church’s switchboard number is 612/871-7400; its general e-mail address is churchinfo@plymouth.org; queries to that address will be directed to the proper person. See "Contact Us" at the top left of any page for e-mails by staff name.

Building Access
The Plymouth building entrances are unlocked Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings (during the church program year) and when there are major events (weddings, memorials services, lectures, etc.). There’s a receptionist in Jones Commons weekdays and on select evenings. When the doors are not unlocked, those visiting the building need to buzz the church office at a major entrance during office hours and announce themselves into the intercom to be admitted to the building. During non-office hours, in an emergency, a custodian can be reached at 612/490-3911. Custodians are on duty until 10 p.m. most evenings.

Accessibility
Those with mobility concerns should use the Jones Commons entrance at the end of the long covered walkway off LaSalle Ave. (1919 LaSalle). An elevator serving all levels is located diagonally at the opposite (northeast) corner of the building, through Guild Hall. There's also an elevator serving the education wing at the south end of Jones Commons. Wheel chairs are available at the church.
